3rd Circle Music is an award-winning production facility in the heart of downtown Manhattan.
The tracking room accommodates small ensembles such as wind quintet, brass section, string quartet, as well as full rhythm section, though much of my orchestral work in recent years has been produced using overtracking to build up large ensemble textures. A wide selection of microphones includes Neumann, RCA, Wunder Audio, Sennheiser, AKG, AEA, Altec, etc., etc. Also in the tracking room are a 1960s blue-sparkle Slingerland Drumset, Wurlitzer 200A electric piano, Rhodes Mark I 73, Hammond C3 with Leslie 145, Yamaha U10 upright piano. A highly flexible, patchable network of vintage guitar amplifiers includes Fender 1957 Low Power Twin, 1967 Marshal Tremolo 50W, 1960 Supro 1624T, 1959 Magnavox Lyric, etc., etc.
The nexus of the control room is a MacStudio with 24 Channels of UA interface, and an older Macintosh running System 9, with 24 TDM channels of classic ProTools HD. Monitors are ATC SCM25A and SCM12. Tie lines from the tracking room allow for flexible use of both the rooms for recording, re-amping, etc. Outboard gear includes Vintage Neve 1081, API, DW Fearn, Amek Neve, Telefunken V76, A-systems preamplifiers, Tubetech Compression and Bricasti Reverb.
The studio also includes a wide and varied collection of vintage guitars, from the nineteen twenties to the present, as well as a small collection of brass instruments, including a King 2B Valve Trombone. Also in the studio is a collection of vintage synthesizers including Oberheim Matrix-12, OBX, Aries 300 Modular System.
